It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

Once she was out her side required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
