Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
